The film opens in Antarctica, where a Norwegian helicopter chases a dog across the frozen landscape. The panicked crew tries to kill the animal but dies in an accident. The dog escapes and wanders into a nearby American research station, where it’s taken in. The dog seems harmless until it’s placed in the kennel. That night, the dog’s body splits apart, revealing a grotesque alien organism. It attacks the other dogs, absorbing and imitating them. The crew kills it, but the damage is already done
